Take a self-guided day trip to Chippewa Falls and discover what made this site such an inspiration to The Group Seven in Algoma.

Immerse yourself in the picturesque scenery and sounds of the beautiful Chippewa Falls. It's the perfect place to be introduced to one of the most famous waterfall paintings in Canada. Many years ago, members of The Group Seven travelled through Algoma and were based in a converted boxcar along the Algoma Central Railway to capture the spirit of this young nation. Chippewa Falls is where Group of Seven painter A.Y. Jackson sketched the rapids on the Chippewa River in the 1950s. "Streambed, Lake Superior Country".

Chippewa Falls also boasts of being the halfway point of the Trans-Canada Highway. The Trans-Canada Highway runs from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia. The building of the 7,800-km highway was part of an act approved in 1949 by Parliament. Construction began in the 1950s and was officially opened in 1962.

Chippewa Falls is a natural wonder and offers a chance to step back in time and experience the natural Canadian wilderness in its truest state. The Group of Seven came to Algoma to capture their moment of Canadian identity, now it is your turn to Capture Yours.
